A relative 'stone's throw' from me, but just cabs, no drivers, horns plus the best parts [screens] have been damaged a bit and only local pick-up, so one really has to want MDF 828s...........

i am watching a pair of grills Altec Voice of The Theatre Speaker Grills | eBay but it has 5 more days left and will probly be out of my wallet range before it's all over. :/

yeah. just checked the discription.they're 26.5"x 19". crap. if they were 28.5" i could have made them work. thanks tom.
cool. looks like im picking up my plywood today. i already have my layout. i should be able to use 90% of two of the sheets. (would have been 98% but i took your advice and went with a full width motor board.) . the scraps are going towards a pair of boxes for my little mantas.
also i'm thinking about making a set of fiberglass horn flanges. that would make a nice thread. if i standarised them so they could retro older cabs would anyone want them? once you make a mold you can pull all the parts you want.
Interesting, good to know. The grilled 828s are past my time paying much attention to Altec speaker offerings and don't really recall seeing any 'in the flesh', but even after looking at them here, can?t tell if they?re the correct ones from just looking at the pics and don?t see any dims in the description to give me a clue, so curious what I?m missing.

Width. The 828 "snap-in" grill is about 28-1/4 wide, it recesses flush with, and between the ~3/4 side panels at 29-7/8 overall width. 1233's and 1234's grills are 26-1/2 wide for their 28 inch wide cabinets.so curious what I’m missing.
Not all vegetables make good leaders.
A good plan. Filling the voids with kitty litter, oil dry, sterilized sand or similar and doubling up the top and bottom plates goes a long way towards making the most of it.
If making the effort, a complete insert of the early A7-8 horn with its more constricted low pass filter [driver cutout] seems the way to go since so many folks are opting for much higher XO points these days and if using a 500 Hz or lower one, then they can always cut out the excess flanges to the full size horn throat.
At one time I'd planned to do this in the hope that folks would quit opting for DIYing the parallel wall 816, 817 series and/or get more to DIY horn cabs, but then 'life' started happening and hasn't cut me any slack since then, so will remain one of many projects I'd planned for my retirement 'career'.

I noticed the width difference in the catalog specs, but they looked like a close fit/flush to me and still can't spot the poor fit, so assumed the added screws were to ensure they stayed in place since I don't know how they were originally retained.
